Tral, Pulwama: A man sustained critical injuries after being shot by unknown gunmen in Nowpora village of Tral, located in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, on Friday evening. This marks the second shooting in the area within two days, sparking concerns over rising violence in the region.
The victim, identified as Naseer Ahmad Ganie, son of the late Bashir Ahmad Ganie, was attacked by masked gunmen near his residence in Nowpora Amlar. According to reports from the news agency GNS, the gunmen opened fire on Ganie, inflicting serious injuries.
A police officer confirmed that Ganie was hit by three bullets—one in his right leg, another in his right arm, and one in his shoulder. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was referred to a hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment.
Following the attack, security forces, including the army and the Special Operations Group (SOG), launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area. The search aims to locate and apprehend the assailants. However, as of now, no arrests have been reported.
This incident follows another shooting in Tral on Thursday evening, where a youth, Manzoor Ahmad Hajam, was critically injured in Hajam Mohalla. The repeated attacks have created an atmosphere of fear among local residents and raised questions about the region’s security situation.
The authorities are investigating both incidents to determine any potential connection and uncover the motive behind the attacks. Meanwhile, locals have urged the administration to ensure swift action against the perpetrators and strengthen security measures in the area.
These back-to-back attacks have heightened tensions in Tral, a region already familiar with conflict. Updates regarding the investigations are awaited as the situation develops.
